HomeKERATOCONUS

KERATOCONUS

Keratoconus is an eye condition in which the cornea progressively gets an irregular conical shape, resulting in severe visual impairment due to the development of abnormal astigmatism.

For more than two decades, Diavgia Ophthalmology Center and ophthalmologist surgeon Mr. Evripidis Vardavas specialize in the treatment of keratoconus through the fitting of special contact lenses of all types (RGP, hybrid, soft and scleral), with great success.

Our goal at Diavgia Opthalmology Center is to treat keratoconus effectively by selecting the appropriate contact lenses for each patient, in order to delay and, if possible, totally avoid corneal transplantation.

A relative study has shown that 65% of corneal transplantations for the treatment of keratoconus could have been avoided if the contact lenses had been properly fit by the specialist. It is also worth mentioning that almost 50% of the patients that undergo corneal transplantation need to use special, post-operative contact lenses after the surgery.
